iFlora是将植物学、DNA测序技术与信息技术相结合，通过系列关键技术的集成和攻关而研制，集标本（样品）收集、遗传信息获取、形态学和DNA数据分析为一体，为植物学专家、政府部门、行业和公众提供便捷、准确识别植物和获取相关信息的新一代“植物志”（智能化装备）。　“十二五”期间拟完成中国常见维管植物科属的iFlora，即完成中国维管植物80%属（约2747属），25%种（约8000种）的iFlora构建。在已建设完成的相关数据库和研究所各科研部门深厚数据积累的基础上，从iFlora研建急需的核心数据、基础数据和拓展数据三级信息水平上进行系统整合，建设了支撑数据汇聚、融合和服务的应用平台，构建了我国常见维管植物iFlora标准数据库（ReferenceLibrary），全方位支撑iFlora的研制和应用。该数据库和应用系统的建设将为国家相关产业部门和公众便捷、准确了解与获取植物多样性和遗传信息提供全新的认知方式和平台。　　目前，本应用系统涉及244科、1842属、7570种，DNA条形码90975条、植物照片87082张、采集信息18524条、种质资源信息31671条、民族植物学4717条、标本信息127万余条（来源CVH）。　　本应用系统中还专门制作了iFlora-国家重点保护野生植物鉴定信息平台（http://www.iflora.cn/Protectedplants/Default.aspx）和iFlora-中国药典药用植物鉴定信息平台（http://www.iflora.cn/POC/Default.aspx）。
